This school year, Archmere has seen a rise in the number of new student-created clubs. Some have been eagerly awaited by students for years, such as Baking Club and Pickleball Club, while others were surprises, like Auks Royale and Mahjong Club.
Two of the newest clubs, Pickleball Club and Investment Club, are proctored by math teacher Mrs. Fowler. Though they are two very different topics, Mrs. Fowler describes that they can both be beneficial to students in similar ways. “I think it will affect students both in their sense of community and also their sense of outreach and giving and ministry,” said Mrs. Fowler.
Pickleball Club was thought of by students, Alaina Thomas, Sophie Wang, Josie Fiss and Marlise Harris and is primarily student run. The club will not only have a positive effect on students, but on others in the community. Mrs. Fowler says that the club is a fun way to get active with your friends. “It is good exercise. It’s a good community activity. It’s something that they’re doing in their free time outside of school” said Mrs. Fowler.
On November 9th, Pickleball Club hosted a tournament called “Play for Sam” with all proceeds going towards charity. The charity it benefitted, Sam’s KIDS, is a non-profit organization that focuses on providing help to children in need. This was an easy way for Archmere students to get involved and help others, and Pickleball Club aims to have many more opportunities like this in the future.
