A popular favorite week at Archmere is undoubtedly Homecoming! Students are fresh off their summer vacation and can’t wait to show their school spirit. First, Archmere students vote on what themes they want to dress up for in the upcoming week. Archmere starts the homecoming celebrations with the homecoming dance on Saturday, which this year was October 12. At the dance, students enjoy dressing up, seeing their friends, and requesting songs on the dance floor. The homecoming dance always raises spirits to begin the new school year. Then, on Monday, the festivities truly begin.
This year, students chose five themes: “Anything but a Backpack” Day, Mr. Johnson Day, Holiday Day, Archmere Spirit Day, and Reference Day. On Monday, for “Anything but a Backpack” day, students and teachers didn’t let the school down. Showing enthusiasm and giving their best effort, some favorites included using baby car seats, buckets, shopping carts, and giant stuffed animals, such as Jack Shahan ‘27, to carry supplies throughout the day. Mr. Chominski said, “I carried my books about in a car seat bucket and cared for the books as one of my children.”
On Tuesday, for Mr. Johnson Day, the community celebrated Mr. Johnson’s legacy at Archmere by wearing Villanova outfits, Phillies gear, and brightly colored shirts. On Wednesday, to dress up for your favorite holiday, Archmere decked out in full costume. Flashing Christmas lights, huge red hearts, Santa hats, bunny ears, and pilgrim trousers were seen across the halls of St. Norbert. On Thursday, only the colors green and white were visible. Later everyone attended the pep rally to see the cheerleaders perform, which was just a sneak peek for the football game on Saturday. Finally, on Friday, friends planned many group costumes for reference day, such as chipmunks and memes like Grimace, Ronald McDonald, a herd of minions, and senior smurfs.
Bridget Malloy ‘26, one of the most enthusiastic students, summed up her week for us. Her favorite costume for Spirit Week was her Holiday day costume. She dressed as a tall Christmas tree to bring joy to her classes. She shared that she believed it’s essential to represent school spirit to Archmere because “it shows the strong community and how everyone is in it together.” Her favorite part about Archmere is the close community and how everyone is respectful of each other and their needs. Bridget also loves participating in school sports. On Homecoming weekend, Bridget played in the volleyball game, and told Green Arch, “My favorite game to attend was the football game. I enjoy supporting the football team because the stands are a fun environment consisting of my friends, and I get to see my classmates succeed on the field.” Even though Homecoming has ended, there is still enough time to support our fall sports!
