“The winner of this year’s Carl S. Campion Service Award is Ms. Anne Wisgo.” Archmere students and teachers roared with excitement in the gym on Friday, January 31 after principal Madame Thiel announced that Ms. Anne had won the Carl S. Campion Service Award during this year’s Catholic Schools Week Assembly. The Carl Campion Award highlights an Archmere faculty member who selflessly serves the community by exemplifying the traits of dedication, humility, and zeal for Archmere. Since she began working at the cafeteria ten years ago, Ms. Anne has dedicated herself to living out these values and has left a powerful impact on Archmere’s community and its members through her everyday service.
Ms. Anne’s mark on Archmere is best reflected in her relationships with teachers, students, and coworkers. Mr. Mengers and Ms. Anne had the opportunity to form a special bond and know each other well when they began their Archmere career in the same year. When asked about his favorite memory with Ms. Anne, Mr. Mengers explains that he has “too many to count,” but he describes one of the most meaningful for him saying, “At Mr. Johnson’s funeral I was really upset and I got a tap and it was her and it was the hug that I needed right there.” Mr. Menger’s experience with Ms. Anne exemplifies how her service, care, and dedication touch many individuals in the Archmere community. In terms of working alongside Ms. Anne, cafeteria coworker Ms. Janae said, “Ms. Anne is so sweet, so helpful, and one of the hardest workers here.”
Not only does Ms. Anne meaningfully impact teachers and coworkers but also Archmere’s students as well. Senior Rylon O’Donnell said, “Anne has become so much more than a friend; she is truly like family to me.” Rylon continued to explain how Ms. Anne welcomed her with open arms when she transferred sophomore year. “I am going to miss our chats next year,” but Rylon says she is so grateful to have formed a lifelong bond with Mrs. Anne.
Ms. Anne reflected on her acceptance of the award. She stated that when she heard her name called during the assembly she was very surprised and felt “overwhelmed” and couldn’t believe that she had been chosen for the honor but was very grateful to receive it. When asked about her favorite parts of working at Archmere, she explained that she most enjoys getting to know her coworkers and the children. As for her day-to-day, Ms. Anne stated that her favorite times are “seeing the teachers” and “both lunches.” Whether it’s a warm smile from her in the cafeteria or her ability to comfort those around her, Ms. Anne is a selfless leader that the Archmere community is so lucky to have.
