Winter sports teams are now entering the second half of their seasons. Teams have performed great so far, but are looking to end the season on an even stronger note. One thing is for sure, the Archmere community is going to keep on supporting these teams no matter what.
To start, boys basketball had three games this past week. On the 23rd they faced St. Marks, but unfortunately lost 37-54. Two days later they faced MOT Charter and had a devastatingly close loss of 47-48. The Auks turned their week around on Saturday when they played Tower Hill and won 46-38. Charlie Malloy ‘25 scored eighteen points, and Drew Duncan ‘24 followed closely with twelve points. Despite the tough week, the team is hoping to use the momentum from their win against Tower Hill to prepare them for their upcoming games.
Girls basketball also had three games this past week. On the 23rd they lost to Caravel 30-47. Then, on the 25th they turned their luck around and crushed MOT Charter 62-21. Lucy Oliver ‘24 had a great game with eighteen points, four rebounds, and four assists. To end the week, on the 26th the girls played St. George’s Tech and emerged victorious with a score of 49-17. Once again Oliver was dominant on the court with eleven points. Although the girls are facing some tough opponents this week, their recent performances have proven that they have what it takes to win.
Both swim teams competed this past week. The boys team had their only meet this week against MOT Charter. It was a great meet as the boys walked away with an outstanding victory of 110-52. The girls had two meets this week. Their first was a great win against MOT Charter 116-52. On the 25th they faced Padua and lost 72-98 in a tough meet. Even though the Auks gave it their all, they improved their performance from last year, and the girls will be back next year to try again.
This past weekend, the Indoor Track and Field Team had an exciting meet against Newark Charter. Next for the team is the DIAA states meet on the 3rd. The team will put all their hard work this season to use in this competition. One of the team captains Helen Socorso ‘25 stated that “Going into states I feel really confident. We have had a bunch of strong performances throughout the season. All the girls have also been putting in a lot of hard work and have been staying consistent so we are super prepared to crush it at states”. It is sure to be a great meet!
