As Archmere’s long-time athletic director, Mr. David Oswinkle, retires after fourteen years, our athletic community welcomes familiar faces into new supervisor roles. Mr. Nick Sanna ‘98 is the new Athletic Director. Current athletic trainer Mrs. Kathryn Sturdivant takes on a larger position as Associate Athletic Director in addition to her work in the training room.
A jack of all trades, Mr. Sanna has been a substitute teacher in the Spanish department as well as a varsity baseball coach and leader of summer camps at Archmere Academy. He continues to show his versatility as he takes on his new role in the community as Athletic Director. As an Archmere graduate, Mr. Sanna said, “I am honored to be the athletic director and continue to watch the programs grow and flourish.” He also said he “has big shoes to fill with Mr. Oswinkle leaving.”
Although an athletic director now, as a kid Mr. Sanna always dreamed of becoming a professional athlete. Fun fact: he took a career test when he was younger, and sure enough, the results revealed he should become an athletic director.
Mr. Sanna shared that his favorite movie is the original “Rocky.” His favorite sport to watch is football. He even describes the “four F’s”–food, family, friends, and football–to be of utmost importance to him. Along with watching the Philadelphia Eagles, Mr. Sanna enjoys all Philly sports: the Flyers, the Phillies, and the Sixers. His favorite singers include Billy Joel, Glen Campbell, and of course, Chappell Roan.
Mr. Nowaczyk, an assistant baseball coach, has coached with Mr. Sanna for a few years. When asked about Mr. Sanna’s new role as athletic director, Mr. Nowazyck said, “Mr. Sanna will do a great job because I know his work ethic and how he treats the players and the fellow coaches.”
With 22 sports teams spanned across three seasons, there is undoubtedly a constant need for scheduling changes and arrangements here at Archmere. The Archmere community is confident that Mr. Sanna and Mrs. Sturdivant will continue to enhance the Archmere athletic program.
