As students prepared for midterms and capstones, a commonly asked question is “How can I study in an effective and efficient way?” Oftentimes, the enormity of topics that need to be studied can seem overwhelming, but there are many tactics that can ease stress and lead to success. The upperclass students here at Archmere have taken several midterms and have found ways to study which helped them prepare.
One tactic for studying is to divide up content across multiple days. Seniors Riley Walsh said, “I like to study by spacing out the units for each class across multiple days, so I am covering a variety of classes per day.” By spacing out the units, the content becomes manageable and allows you to work efficiently.
Secondly, the tactic of practice and repetition is useful for certain subjects. “For subjects like math and science,” Walsh said, “I find it very helpful to complete many practice problems to make sure I know the concepts and am prepared.” Practice problems are an essential part of studying math and science and a great way to reinforce concepts. Practice opportunities are easy to find through asking teachers and searching online.
Lastly, planning a study schedule is crucial for success. Senior Adrianna Omiridis said “It is best to start studying far in advance by making a schedule and planning out what subjects to study each day.” By starting to study far in advance, the topics will be more familiar by the midterm and will prevent an overload of work in preparation for the exam. A schedule can help organize the topics and avoid procrastination, which can lead to stress. Being fully prepared on the day of the exam is crucial to feeling confident with the material.
While the Archmere community faced a different midterm schedule this year that does not include a reading day during exam week, the tips and tricks can provide organization and confidence going into cumulative exams. Organizing content across multiple days, utilizing practice resources, and having a study plan will lead to a successful exam week for the Auks.
