Chloe’s Favorite Foods for Cravings

Chloe Mantakounis, Co-Editor-in-Chief

I’m sort of a health nut (besides my cheat days). I love going to the gym, researching diets, and finding new healthy foods/alternatives. Recently I’ve found a bunch of these “junk” foods that actually taste good. Here is the list of my favorite snacks for cravings.

1: Cheetos Simply White Cheddar Puffs

These Cheetos are the same exact size as the regular cheetos puffs, but instead of the orange fatty coating on the puff, it’s a nice light white cheddar powder. 32 of these Puffs come in at only 150 calories, while the regular puffs have 160 calories for only 13 pieces. The natural puffs are nearly triplae the amount for less calories.

2: Kitu Super Creamer

I’ll compare this creamer to Nestle’s Coffee Mate Natural Bliss Sweet Cream flavor. The Kitu super creamer has 0 added sugar, with 3 tablespoons consisting of only 50 calories. Nestle’s natural creamer has 30 calories per tablespoon with 5g of sugars. Both taste relatively good, but if you’re trying to lose weight this swap can be extremely helpful!

3: Anything from SmartSweets

SmartSweets are a great alternative to regular candy with their Peach Rings, Fruity Gummy Bears, and other gummies. The Peach Rings from SmartSweets are 100 calories with 0 grams of added sugar for 10 peach rings. Compared to Gold Emblem peach rings (which are 120 calories for 5 pieces) the smart sweets are definitely worth the high price point of $3 per bag.

4: Halo Top Ice Cream

For some reason, and for a very long time, I thought these had nuts in them so I never ate it (I’m allergic to nuts). However, I recently found out that a lot of these are nut free, so I tried it. It was like an angel sent my friend to have me try the chocolate flavor. For 300 cals per pint and 19 grams of protein, this ice cream is completely guilt free! Compared to Breyer’s chocolate flavor at 560 calories and 9 grams of protein, Halo Top really does have a halo on top.

5: Skinny Girl Lime and Salt Popcorn

Popcorn is relatively all the same amount of calories, but this Skinny Girl popcorn is so delicious I had to add it to the list. You really can taste the lime in this, and the volume of the snack is tremendously large. This and other popcorn is a great substitute for chips that have barely any volume at all.

6: Kodiak Flapjack Pancakes

These pancakes are amazing for a lower calorie diet because of how filling they are. For 190 calories per serving they pack in 14 grams of protein! Personally I’d say this is an amazing calorie to protein ratio. Compare this to the iconic Aunt Jemima’s pancake mix with the same calories but only 3 grams of protein. Which one would leave you feeling fuller?

9: Oikos Triple Zero Greek Yogurt

The Holy Grail of all yogurts, this high protein low calorie yogurt is super filling and extremely versatile to eat. Most flavors have approximately 100 calories with around 15 grams of protein. Also an amazing protein to calorie ratio! Triple zero stands for 0 fat, 0 added sugars, and 0 artificial sweeteners. Another comparable yogurt would be Light and Fit greek yogurt with 2 more grams of sugar, 3 less grams of protein, and 10 less calories. My favorite is eating this with fat free whipped cream.

10: Fat Free Reddi Whip

That reminds me. Speaking of whipped cream, Fat Free Reddi Whip is the perfect substitute for regular whipped cream. 2 tablespoons of regular whipped cream is 15 calories, while fat free is only 5. Don’t judge if you see me eating an “unreasonable” amount of whipped cream on my Oikos Triple Zero greek yogurt.

11: Mission Carb Balance Tortilla Wraps

These wraps came out of nowhere and quite literally blew up, and for good reason. I don’t eat wraps too often but now I do because of how low in calories these are. Swap the regular 140 calorie Mission wraps for the low carb 45 calorie wraps. I personally cannot tell a difference between the 2!

12: Fiber One Bars

Having a sugar craving? Me too, all the time. Fiber One has a line of mini granola bars for around 70 calories each. My personal favorite are the chocolate caramel and pretzel bars. 70 calories and 1 gram of sugar is great for sugar cravings because they still taste super sweet and deluctant.

13: Tzatziki

Being Greek, I grew up eating various greek foods. Greek food is actually extremely good for you. Tzatziki (a greek yogurt based dip with dill, onion, and lemon). Super delicious and perfect for veggies and crackers.

Cravings are so hard to beat on any diet you’re on. If you’re hoping to beat cravings, or are looking for new options when it comes to food, these 13 foods will help you tremendously.
